FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
WHERE DO YOUR IDEAS COME FROM?
My greatest inspiration comes from nature. I love color, rhythms and
patterns, and how things unfold over time. I’m fascinated by nature
repeating herself through the micro/macrocosm. I’m also inspired by
world travels, architecture, sacred geometry, mythology and symbols.
The idea for table~fountains grew from making tabletop fountains and
wanting them to be bigger. The idea for small tabletop fountains came
from a trip to Hawaii where I was saturated with light, color, water,
movement and sound. I came home to winter in New England and needed to
express the beauty I’d experienced in the work I made.
The idea for mosaic was very practical - how to work with glass, such a
fragile material - on such a large scale? On it’s own the glass would be
both heavy and breakable. By combining it with wood issues of size,
strength and durability are resolved.
ARE THEY BATTERY POWERED OR ELECTRIC?
All table~fountains require electricity. They come with a pump that
circulates the water and an underwater halogen light. At night or in a
darkened space the center area glows like a jewel.
HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF THE WATER?
Using distilled water will prolong the life of the pump, prevent calcium
scale buildup and inhibit algae. As the distilled water evaporates just
add more.
CAN THEY BE OUTDOORS?
Yes, mosaic has been used outdoors for centuries. With proper care and
tending your outdoor piece will last a lifetime. An ideal location is a
wooden deck or stone patio protected from falling branches, heavy winds
and full sun. Over the winter drain the water and cover or bring
indoors. Please specify for outdoor use when ordering.
HOW CAN I ORDER?
Please call to discuss your needs and wishes. All work is custom made
when ordered and depending on where I am in my work and travel schedule
may take 3-6 months to create. We will discuss and agree on the details
and sign a Commissioning Contract. A non refundable 50% deposit is
required. The balance is due upon completion prior to shipping or
delivery of the work. Crating and shipping charges are additional.
